Barnes & Noble sales of the Nook during the nine-week holiday sales period increased 70 percent from the same period last year. B&N are now considering spinning-off the Nook business to cope with mounting costs.
While digital continues to grow for B&N, they're looking to sell their business, Sterling, to concentrate on technology and digital, according to theWall Street Journal due to increasing pressure from Amazon. Sterling focussed on non-fiction, children’s books, crafting, cooking and self-help imprints.
Kobo also had a good holiday season. The company reported today that eBook gifting was up 200 percent this year, and 500 percent between November and December.
