Member Spotlight February 2012
Writing was a chore for Tiffany Turner during her early years in
elementary school. She struggled and took extra classes just to keep up…until the fifth grade
when she was given a writing journal assignment, which changed her life.
Tiffany had to write an essay about the explorer Daniel Boone. It
demanded all of her focus, but during the process she
became aware of how her words were being sculpted on the page. And from this
realization, a love for the art of writing became a dream, an ambition, and a
goal ultimately to write a book.
After completing a BA in Drama at the San Jose State University (and Tiffany says she performs all
day as a teacher), Tiffany started on the path to learn all she could
about writing for children by firstly joining The Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. She attended various writing conferences and workshops,
developed her writing style and drafted her first manuscript. In 2005 she
directed her attention and research at publishing options, at which time
self-publishing was not widely accepted as a viable route. But after attending
a conference that featured stories from self-published
authors, Tiffany's (self) publishing journey began. |

"I've learned a lot over the years,” says Tiffany. "And it
has allowed me to identify my readership, establish myself as an author, and
develop my author platform via my website and blogs. I feel like I'm a part of a new frontier in publishing."
Tiffany is the author of two books in The Crystal Keepers Chronicles
series: The Lost Secret of Fairies and The Lost Secret of the Green Man with
more books on the way.
When she is not writing, Tiffany is teaching 3rd graders how to read and write using her own early-year
difficulties to inspire her students. She participates in a Renaissance Acting
Guild where she plays the first lady-in-waiting to Mary, Queen of the Scots,
plays the Gaelic Harp, and a fairy character. She has been wire-wrapping
crystal pendants and selling her jewelry designs on-line and at craft fairs
since 1989. Tiffany also enjoys traveling to gather ideas for her stories and
characters. Otherwise, she is at home in San Jose with her husband and cat.
You can connect with Tiffany on her website, blog, Twitter or Facebook, and on Amazon.com. |
