We are pleased to submit to you, our list of Best Websites for Independent Authors. For our inaugural list, we received 138 nominations so a huge thank you to everyone who participated. Unfortunately, whilst many of the nominated sites were interesting, innovative and inspiring - and we were pleased to have discovered them thanks to the nominators - a lot of them did not quite fit our criteria: |

- the site offers free information and resources of relevance and value to independent authors. Commercial sites that offer paid services may still fulfil this criteria if, in addition to those paid services, they offer free information and resources of value and relevance.
- this list is for the best websites for independent authors not "best independent author websites", which we have been inspired to create - coming soon!
- websites that focus on the search and process of finding a traditional publisher (including querying) are not considered specific to independent authors who impliedly have chosen to go it alone, however agency sites that offer specific, tailored services for independent authors do qualify.
We have included a number of sites that offer legitimate and respected award programs because these programs are invaluable to independent authors. Award programs that are available to independent authors, but which tend to reward traditionally-published books are not included in our list. While we do not expect award programs to be exclusive to either independent or traditional authors, those that do favor the latter simply do not fit our criteria, particularly as one of our roles is to ensure independent authors do not waste time and money on initiatives that are not likely to be fruitful.
This list will grow organically, and we invite you to continuously submit nominations for the list. We will review it annually to be sure the list remains current and relevant.
